Billy Morgan Surpasses Signature Requirement, Demonstrating Widespread Support Across the 79th

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

Springfield, IL – Today candidate William “Billy” Morgan turned in more than 1,300 signatures – out of a required 500 – to place his name on the ballot for the March 19, 2024 Democratic primary for State Representative in the 79th Representative District in Illinois.

“Petition-passing is the most democratic process we have – no matter who you are, your signature counts just as much as all the other signatures of registered voters in the district, no matter how much money you have or what your background is,” said candidate Billy Morgan. “Each signature represents a conversation, and I was grateful to have hundreds of conversations across the district with voters, listening to their concerns, their hopes, and their dreams for their communities.”

More than 40 volunteer petition-passers collected signatures from every corner of the 79th District, making a concerted effort to ensure representation from across the 79th District, which encompasses four counties: Kankakee, Will, Cook, and Grundy.

“Billy Morgan’s signature campaign has been a robust and coordinated people-powered effort that will continue through the primary, and represents the Democrats’ best hope at victory in November,” said Janet Blue, campaign manager. “As a great leader in Illinois often says, ‘Winners do the work.’”

William “Billy” Morgan, a Monee Township Trustee and chair of the Monee Township Democratic Organization with years of experience in grassroots organizing, announced his campaign on Sept. 18, 2023. He quickly accumulated a number of prized endorsements, and so far has led the pack in fundraising for the 79th District.
